Kim Malcolm

Kim Malcolm is an accomplished, certified Nutritionist who genuinely lives her passion for food and lifestyle as medicine. She has worked globally throughout her career, meeting with private clients, writing and managing nutritional seminars for hundreds of people, creating whole food recipes, teaching cooking classes, and consulting to chefs and cafés.

Kim’s breadth of experience and decades of learning have given her deep wisdom about the principles that underpin holistic, healthy living. Her educational content is grounded in the conviction that we are all able to make transformational changes for our overall health by combining the science of nutrition with our own personal intuition. This approach provides practitioners and clients alike with a framework for making healthy choices that are both evidenced-based and conscious of one’s unique DNA, culture and life experience.

Her curiosity about natural, whole foods as fuel for the body is a common thread throughout her early childhood memories growing up in New Zealand. Her natural propensity to gather knowledge on this subject set the course for a lifestyle centred on nutritional wisdom and has supported her journey to become a woman who inspires well-being internationally.

Kims’ authenticity supports others to find their own ‘Bespoke Nutrition for a Holistic Lifestyle’ through her brand, Health Whisperer®.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into nutrition?

I’ve always had an affinity for eating as close to nature as possible. When I was confronted with my mother’s terminal illness during early adolescence, that journey organically took me on a path that evolved into a career focused on the role nutrition plays in wellness. I believe in the power of food as medicine.

What inspired you to become a tutor?

Working with clients gave me the privilege of seeing life-changing effects on how the practical knowledge of nutrition and lifestyle can impact someone’s life to eat and live better, so I took the step to do that in a way where there was a greater reach.

What are some essential skills or qualities that every nutritionist should possess?

Three interpersonal qualities are to listen actively to both the verbal and nonverbal language of others, have compassion, and be empathetic. My personal approach to working with others is kindness-based and focuses on being aware, attentive, and observant, always thinking where the client’s needs lie.

Do you specialise in a certain area of Nutrition?

Recipe development and teaching how to create food that nourishes the body. Cultivating a balanced and sustainable way of eating life-giving food that is entirely unique to a person's body and lifestyle. "Bespoke nutrition for a holistic lifestyle"

What is your teaching philosophy when it comes to nutrition?

The wellness industry is so diverse, and there is a place for everyone. Discover what you are passionate about and build your skill set in that area.

What are some key skills and knowledge areas you focus on in the course?

As someone who is so passionate about sharing my knowledge of how powerful good nutrition is to every aspect of our being, I’ve designed the course with a holistic approach to whole-body health. This starts with learning the basics – how our digestion system works and the functions of each organ. We’ve covered the building blocks of nutrition so students can understand how and why our food choices impact our well-being, with an emphasis on gut health and the gut microbiome, the mind-body connection, and how every system in our body is tied to this thriving ecosystem. I’ve also included practical assignments so students can apply their knowledge in creating their own meals, meal plans, or starting a business of their own. My goal is for the course to empower students to make informed dietary choices and promote overall health, or to pursue a career in the industry so they can pass along their knowledge to others.

What is your favourite part about being a tutor?

The course content breaks down complex concepts into understandable and practical insights. So, I like helping each student grasp what significantly impacts and changes their lives for better health and how to apply that knowledge to support their future aspirations.

What advice would you give to new students?

Harness your personal intention to learn and stay motivated. No one gets from the start of a race to the finish line without running it first. Stay focused by take one step at a time until you reach the finish line. Enjoy the journey of discovery!

I really enjoyed doing my assignments, both written and practical. I always felt quite accomplished once I had completed the task at hand, and I could download the next module and glance through it.
