Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into nutrition?

I have a bachelor's degree in Food Science and Nutrition, along with additional training in wellness coaching, business, and public health. My love for food started at a young age—I even considered becoming a chef but realised the hours weren’t for me!

What drew me to nutrition was my passion for learning, educating, and helping people. I’ve always been fascinated by the connection between food and health, and public health awareness has become a central focus for me. I love empowering others to make informed choices about their health and seeing the positive changes that follow.

What inspired you to become a tutor?

I became a tutor because I’m passionate about helping others succeed. I love seeing students break through challenges and gain confidence in their abilities. Teaching allows me to share my knowledge, make an impact, and keep learning along the way.

What are some essential skills or qualities that every nutritionist should possess?

Every nutritionist must be able to critically analyse research and avoid falling for misinformation or scare tactics. The ability to distinguish between evidence-based advice and popular myths is crucial. Nutritionists need to be grounded in science, able to see through the noise and focus on what’s truly backed by research.

Do you specialise in a certain area of Nutrition?

My passion is in public health nutrition, where I get to shake things up and create real change for healthier communities. I’m all about tackling the root causes of diet-related diseases and making nutrition solutions that are backed by science but also accessible to everyone. I love the challenge of turning complex science into practical, everyday strategies that can make a huge difference—helping communities thrive, reduce health gaps, and spark lasting change!

What is your teaching philosophy when it comes to nutrition?

I’m all about making nutrition enjoyable and approachable! I like to take the science and turn it into practical, real-life tips that students can actually use. I focus on creating a positive vibe around food, where it's all about balance, not perfection. It’s about helping people find what works for them—making healthier choices fun, not stressful, and showing them how to fuel their bodies without the overwhelm.

What key skills and knowledge areas do you focus on in the course?

Understanding the science behind nutrition—digestion, metabolism, and how food affects our bodies—while also emphasising practical, real-world applications. You’ll also gain skills in creating personalised nutrition plans and an understanding of food behaviours. It’s all about blending the science with the human side of nutrition to make a real impact!

What is your favourite part about being a tutor?

I love learning from my students! Each interaction brings new insights.

What advice would you give to new students?

Stay curious, embrace challenges, and don’t be afraid to ask questions! Nutrition can be complex, but the more you dig into it, the clearer it becomes. Focus on understanding the 'why' behind things, stay open-minded, and have fun with it!

The course material was thorough but easy to understand. The support I received from Kim was exceptional. I found that if I had a question, it was answered promptly. My assignments were marked quickly, and the feedback I received was above and beyond helpful.
